One-Liner: Quotable on Game and Player

One-Liner: Quotable

What sayings have made their way into your everyday life?

I

f you're like me, you have probably adopted many sayings and quotations from your favorite games. Just the other day I found myself asking my boyfriend if he was going to "mark and execute" with a good friend of ours. What I was asking him was if he planned on playing Splinter Cell: Conviction, but with terminology from the game itself.

Some of my favorites are:

"I'm not putting my lips on that." — Ben, Full Throttle

"Artoo, there's a gecko on my tail. See what you can do with it!" — Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko

"Hold your fire, I'm a human!" — Leon Kennedy, RE2

"I'm the best!" and "Yahoo!" — Toad, Mario Kart

This has me wondering what other phrases are used in our every day lives. Are there any that you use often?

Oh, the list goes on and on.

My favorite, by far, is "We're losing this fight!" from Modern Warfare 1 and 2; but I used to fill airtime with an imaginary series of dumb questions about the OpFor/Spetsnaz exhortation to "Take no prisoners, comrades."

Then there's the bombastic "Mercenary!" from MechAssault; as well as "Finish the fight," from Halo 3.

Anyone who's been raiding Icecrown Citadel regularly will know "Bonesto-o-o-orm!" and "Good new-w-w-w-ws, everybody!"

You can't have a post about One liners and not mention Duke Nukem! :P

"Looks like cleanup on aisle four."
or another favorite?

"Nuke 'em 'till they glow, then shoot 'em in the dark!"

Some phrases I have started using since playing the game they came from:

"Would you kindly"
"The cake is a lie" I say this literally everytime I hear the word cake.
"Hi-Yoooo"
"I am the best robot" (in tune form)

"Catch a riiiiiiiiiiiiiiide!"

Gotta love the Scooter man.

Good call with Mario Kart, Toad is very influential, especially with his special brand of "Whoawhoawhoawhoawhoa" (when peeling out).

Star Fox 64 was made to be quoted.
"Can't let you do that.... Star Fox"
"Do a barrel roll" "Hey Einstein, I'm on your side"
"Only I have the BRAINS to rule Lylat"
and on and on and on.

While I am glad nobody is mentioning any of the /silly -s from WoW, you gotta love a gnome's impression of a /train

"Heeeeeey! Listen!"

Ed Kirchgessner // May 2, 2010 // 3:53 PM

"Lizardman WINS!!!" - SoulCalibur

TheSwP // May 3, 2010 // 1:30 AM

"There's room for one more, it's a f&*#'in party down here." Baird, Gears of War

QuizMaster // May 3, 2010 // 6:18 PM

@Ed
When does "Lizardman WINS" ever come up?

Michael Ubaldi // May 3, 2010 // 9:47 PM

Quiz: It's a long, long story. :D

Jace Proctor // May 4, 2010 // 1:53 PM

I really like saying "UNPOSSIBLE!", like Mogor from the Ring of Blood in Nagrand.

Jessica Johnson // May 6, 2010 // 10:05 AM

@Kerry I love Toad. Especially the "Whoawhoawhoawhoawhoa," except I was not sure how to express that in written form. You have shown me the way!

Chris likes to say "Bleh Bleh Bleh! Bluh bleh bleh!" which I believe is from Starfox 64. His version is quite hilarious.

Michael Ubaldi // May 6, 2010 // 11:55 PM

Omigosh, Jes! That's another one. Ed and I have been trading impersonations of Falco from the SNES original for years.

BURDU-DU-DU-DABBUH?
