Retail Roundup: March 10, 2010

Final Fantasy. And some other stuff.

L

et's cut to the chase, folks: Final Fantasy XIII hits stores this week, and you can prepare to lose tens of hours in the course of beating it. Few series have stolen away as much of our lives as this role-playing behemoth. While a lot feels familiar about this sci-fi-flavored fantasy romp, something's definitely new: casting aside the usual single-platform model, Square Enix releases this one for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Yakuza 3 continues Sega's experiment in open-world adventure gaming. Consider this the East's take on Grand Theft Auto if you must — the Yakuza series has always had enough personality to stand on its own. Get tattooed with toxic (yet vibrant) inks and take to the street in this PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Need a strategy fix? Gas Powered Games and Square Enix are poised to come through with Supreme Commander 2 on PC and Xbox 360. Take command of your own futuristic army full of space marines and giant robots as you fight to become Lord of the Cosmos… or something like that.

Who ever heard of such a game. Final Fantasy? What is that?

Goodbye, next month and a half of life!
