Retail Roundup: October 21, 2009

This week: a little something for everyone.

O

n paper, Borderlands has a lot going for it: hybrid RPG/shooter gameplay, a unique art style and copious multiplayer options. Of course, 2K's latest enters an already crowded field. Only time will tell if this one lives up to the hype and the midnight GameStop events.

Already a hit on the DS, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars arrives this week on the PSP. Assuming the graphics have been beefed up a bit to complement the portable's lush LCD, this might turn into the action game of choice for Sony fans on the go.

Way of the Samurai 3 arrives in the West, bringing with it a unique blend of action/adventure and role-playing. Replay value abounds as you explore a huge cast and a seemingly endless stream of endings. And perhaps a first for a Japanese role-playing title: the campaign can be cleared in less than ten hours.

The first LostWinds title was a great addition to the early WiiWare library. LostWinds: Winter of Melodias may not bring too much that's new to the table, but expect the same charming play style and great use of the Wii's motion controls.
