Retail Roundup: July 22, 2009

This week, the Wii gets the royal treatment.

I

t's finally arrived: it's been a long wait for XSEED's Little King's Story, but if early reviews are any indication, it was certainly worth it. This Wii title is destined to be compared to the Square Enix release My Life as a King even though it shares more in common with games like Pikmin. If cute strategy/puzzle hybrids are your thing, be sure to snatch this one up.

Speaking of My Life as a King, that game's spiritual successor arrives this week by way of a WiiWare release. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord lets players see what life's like on the other side. Where King was all about expansion and conquest, Darklord seems to focus on the defense of one's keep.

Rounding out this week's releases is The King of Fighters XII from SNK Playmore. Enhanced graphics and a reworked roster aim to keep the series viable on the modern consoles. Available for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, the latest in this long-running franchise looks to be just as beautiful as the games which came before it. Not Arc System Works beautiful, mind you, but what is?
