Pandemic trades in Obi-Wan for Gandalf.

O

n paper, the premise of Moon seems pretty solid: mankind finds an alien hatch on the surface of the moon, and it's your job to explore it. The problem is, this game isn't the sort of point and click adventure that works so well on Nintendo's DS. Why must developers continue trying to make first person shooters for this platform? If only Renegade Kid had drawn their inspiration from Myst rather than Descent, this one might be worth a recommendation.

While it lacks the sci-fi bent of Pandemic's other Battlefield games, The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is sure to bring a smile to many a Tolkien fan. Players pick a class and fight it out on huge multiplayer battlefields — provided matchmaking is up to the task, this multiplatform shooter could be a great diversion in these early Winter months.

Can math ever be fun? Perhaps, so long as Nintendo's publishing. Personal Trainer: Math is the latest in Nintendo's G Touch Generations series for the DS. Its drills and problem sets may remind one of 2006's Brain Age, and considering that classic's success, Nintendo may have quite an audience on their hands.

For those who prefer to do their gaming on a Windows box, EA releases Mirror's Edge on the PC this week. While I'm not convinced that the smooth controls of the console version will translate that well to keyboard and mouse, it might be worth your time to see what all the hype was about.
