Wipeout hits the PS3 in high-definition.

I

can still remember my first experience with the Wipeout franchise back in 2000 — Psygnosis was still at the helm (prior to their being gobbled up by SCEE), and I read about the game in NextGen Magazine. Nostalgia aside, Wipeout HD looks to bring us some of the series' best courses and music tracks, and we can get it without even setting foot outside. A word to the uninitiated — this is the most hardcore "arcade" franchise you're likely to come across.

While Mega Man never really did it for me, I'm well aware that the Blue Bomber has millions of fans the world over. Mega Man 9 makes its way to the Wii's Virtual Console, offering up all the classic gameplay that's made the series such a mainstay. Fans beware: a treasure trove of downloadable add-on content is in the works.

Although we've been waiting for its sequel for nearly a decade, we can experience the original Duke Nukem 3D this week on the Xbox Live Arcade. Raunchy middle school humor and a splendid arsenal of weapons are present and accounted for.

If you find yourself pining for 2006's endless flood of World War Two games, Gearbox delivers for you this week. Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway, the series' third installment, continues the tradition of mixing squad-based strategy with shooting action.

The Lego video game craze seems to have no end in sight. Lego Batman appears to get more inspiration from the 60's TV series than this summer's blockbuster film, but that's probably better considering the title's target audience. Expect a kid-friendly game which just might bring a smile to your face as well.
