Retail Roundup: Mar. 26, 2008

A few of the games that are hitting store shelves this week.

I

t looks as though Square-Enix saved the best of its Final Fantasy VII prequels for last. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is an RPG/action hybrid that tells the tale of Zack — the former Shinra soldier who shaped the lives of both Cloud and Sephiroth. Despite the dirge that was Cerberus (ahem), Crisis Core fires on all cylinders with its deep story and innovative play mechanics. Just another reason to make 2008 the year you finally buy a PSP.

PC gamers starved for new RTS content need look no further than Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath. This first expansion pack for Command and Conquer 3 adds new units and levels to this series that is a strategy staple.

Though I've spent the better part of the last three months making fun of its name, Viking: Battle for Asgard arrives on the Xbox 360 and PS3 this week. I've got to admit — now that I've finally taken the time to read a few preview articles and check out its screenshots, this Sega action title doesn't look half bad.

Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers who prefer their action stars freshly shaven may want to check out D3's Dark Sector. Originally unveiled in 2004, this title has seen its visuals and story overhauled on numerous occasions. Though never a good sign, we'll reserve judgment on this third person shooter until after we've played it.
