Luigi's Mansion, reviewed in retrospect by Ed Kirchgessner (http://www.game-and-player.com/articles/2009/03/luigis_mansion.html).

I was given a hand-me-down Gamecube from a friend who was moving away back in September or so--the first gaming console I have ever owned. I knew this particular Gamecube well as I had played endless hours of Mario Kart Double Dash on it (with this same friend, then a roommate, and our other housemates). The legend goes that system was actually won in a Madden tournament at a local bar. This would explain the Heineken logo on the top. We call it the Heinekube.

In any case! Ed, thanks for your review of this title! I'll definitely look it up. I'm currently battling my way painstakingly through Super Mario Sunshine and having an absolute ball. That's a game that doesn't seem to get much love, as near as I can tell, but it's really exciting for me, having never played through an entire video game in my life.

Any more Gamecube titles you would recommend?

Also, any chance of G&P doing more retroactive reviews? Now that so much of Nintendo and Sega's catalogs are available on the Wii store (or whatever that online thing is), I would think there are plenty of older games that might be new to your readers. Might also be more fun to write about games where you weren't under the same time pressure you might feel when dealing with a new release.

I'd love to read reviews of older computer games, too. Specifically, Ed, I want to read a nine part epic review of Syndicate. You know you want to write it.

I preordered my Gamecube and Luigi's Mansion at a GameStop where they asked me if I needed a gift receipt. I said "No" and then the guy said "Oh, is this for you?" *gasp*. Retard.

After I finally picked it up I locked myself in my room and played it til I beat it. It was mildly satisfying at best, but it's adorable nature will always be memorable. Especially when I was surprised with the aquatic theme. That was cute.

IMO, you simply MUST own Rogue Squadron II, Pikmin, and Wind Waker for the GameCube.

I can't help but second the suggestion of Wind Waker. I played it over a weekend at my then boyfriend's house shortly after college and he was concerned that I might have liked the game more than him at the time.

Pikmin and Wind Waker are definite "must haves," Gabe. If you're after some challenging 2D sidescrollers, you might want to check out Viewtiful Joe or Alien Hominid.

I loved Super Mario Sunshine as well – while it's not the "purest" Mario title by any means, it sure was a lot of fun.

We've discussed on previous occasions. I think it is the weakest, as it went to far away from what makes Mario Mario. They at least made Mario II about a dream, but Sunshine seemed a little odd. And there was some insanely difficult stars to acquire.
