I would consider one antithetical example — ordinary concept, near-flawless execution — to be Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War. It's loads of fist-pumping, knuckleheaded fun.

Fear 2 seems pretty cool. I couldn't get into the first one. So I only played it for a bit and then put it down. The "bullet time" in the first FEAR was weird to me and felt to pushed upon the player and environment. Also the comment in the review about things seeming placed and the environments be too artificial, I agree with, from a perspective of playing the first FEAR. On the other hand FPS that are smooth are always nice and enjoyable to play. Nothing is worse than lining up a head shot pulling the trigger and nothing happens... I know I couldn't miss, so you try aiming all over the place to find out that sometimes the bullets just aren't there. But this is a discussion entirely on its own. I looked forward to trying out FEAR 2 when I get the chance.
