Yesterday, NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander landed safely on the surface of the Red Planet, transmitting photographs (http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/phoenix/main.php) along with its status report.
The probe's mission is to bore into the polar ground, extract both water and Martian soil, and analyze them both. It's anticipated that microorganisms may be present — but as with all of these explorations, surprising discoveries abound.
Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZqT15DoVmM) a rather high-quality production describing Phoenix's entry.

I'm interested to hear what they discover on the planet. There's been many speculations over the years, and I'm curious as to what they discover.

So, I have always been a fan of exploration. My dream job would be the first man (I could settle for being the first geologist) to set foot on Mars. Just to be an explorer, the thrill.. so much fun!
Anyways, I have been watching this mission and the previous others very intently. I find it extremely interesting and very promising that we can now successfully land observers and probes by using propulsion instead of crashing into the surface covered in giant airbags. This can open up some nice doors for space exploration.
Well, if anyone is interested in Mars exploration I'm reading this book titled "The Case for Mars" by Rober Zubrin which is about how we could colonize Mars with today's technology (actually the book is about 12 years old) and why we really ought to do it now.
I firmly believe that if the human race is to survive, we need to start looking into the stars for new habitat space.
