Something old is new all over again.

I

t's Mario, Luigi and two Toads, all on one screen — at the same time! Not only does New Super Mario Bros. Wii allow players to return to the series' 2-D roots, it enables them to enjoy the game with up to three friends simultaneously. Expect plenty of new ideas alongside the familiar in this latest title — just make sure you've got a friend or three in the wings to help you out (or push you over the edge).

A Crusades-Era setting has given way to Italy during the Renaissance in Assassin's Creed II. There looks to be more of everything this time around — both environmental diversity and crowd intelligence have been beefed up, which should result in cities that are more lifelike and reactive. It releases this week for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

While some have already signed petitions declaring their hatred of Left 4 Dead 2, the rest of us have a lot to look forward to — not just a glorified expansion, Valve has crammed a whole lot of content into this cooperative shooter. This time around, you're slaying zombies in the storm-ravaged South. New weapons, challenges and enemies await your party. You can pick it up on both the PC and Xbox 360.
