eveloper DICE hits us with yet another dose of multiplayer shooting mayhem this week — Battlefield 1943 launches for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In an interesting move, the title is currently only available as a download on the Xbox Marketplace and PSN. 24 player encounters are launching now on a number of battlefields inspired by the Pacific theater of operations.

Another downloadable this week sees the return of a classic franchise: Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal brings the Lucasarts adventure series into the modern age with the addition of true 3-D environments. If you're on the fence, make sure to check out this review by Game and Player's own Jessica Johnson — sounds as though this first installment shaped up nicely.

Isn't it a bit late in the season to be releasing a baseball title? Eh, what do I know: barbecuing is my summer sport of choice. 2K Sports releases its latest take on the majors with The Bigs 2. This one's available for all major platforms including the PlayStation 2. Now if you'll excuse me, my chicken's almost done...
