At the SouthPeak Booth

A look at SouthPeak Interactive's upcoming titles.

I

f you have been keeping up with a game called Section 8, you are in for a treat. I was fortunate enough to get an exclusive demonstration of the game at the SouthPeak Interactive booth. But the fun didn't stop there. With seven other titles either under development or nearly completed, every single one is available to play here at E3.

Section 8 is a futuristic shooter with some very special twists. Inspired by Tribes, this conquest-oriented game is hellbent on giving all types of players the most fun they could ask for. This task is accomplished by giving the player various weapons classes to choose from as well as the option to customize your own. Once in the game, all players may use jet packs to travel great distances or sprint for several seconds to make yourself nearly invulnerable. When a player respawns, you "Burn In" with your jet pack from above the map to any preselected point you wish to start at. That is correct, you choose your spawn location.

Section 8 stands out in front of
SouthPeak's most anticipated titles.
Based on the weapons class you selected, there will be various Dynamic Combat Missions available during the match. This is basically like earning air strikes or various other special items in other games, except that the opposing team is always given the chance to counter. If you are an explosives specialist, you will be given the location of a bomb that you must retrieve and then plant in the enemy base. The other team is notified that you will be planting a bomb, and that they need to defend their base. If successfully completed, your team will gain something very helpful in the long run. This can range from destroying every enemy turret in the base to earning a convoy escort.

Terrain on the map is quite varied in terms of height, and all of it is usable to gain advantage. Money earned can be spent on deployables, which are items such as supply depots to replenish ammo and even turrets to help defend your position. The focus of this game is mainly on the multiplayer experience, but I was told there is a single player story along with it. Overall this game looks to be heading in the right direction. It will be available this August for the PC and Xbox 360.

Raven Squad, an FPS/RTS hybrid, follows a small troop of soldiers that have managed to find themselves in a sticky situation. With no hope of reinforcements, you control a set of three soldiers who can be maneuvered in either first person or the overhead RTS perspective. Commanding your soldiers is easy: just click the location you wish for them to go to. Tell individual soldiers to assist others or revive your downed teammates. Raven Squad comes out this Fall for PC and Xbox 360.

Like multitasking?
Try Fast Food Panic.
For fans of Root Beer Tapper and Cooking Mama, games like Sushi Go Round and Fast Food Panic are right up your alley. Sushi Go Round is basically about memorization and speed. Hand out menus to customers that come in, recall what goes into making their order, serve, clean up after guests have left, repeat. It is coming out Winter 2010 for the Wii and DS.

Fast Food Panic, on the other hand, is all about multitasking. The player runs a restaurant that serves just about everything from hamburgers to crepes. I watched this game demonstrated on the Wii and I was impressed with the level of complexity involved in cooking all the food. Start hamburgers sizzling on the stove, then go roll some dough for a pizza. Add sauce and toppings, then while that is baking go back and check the burgers, and so on. Fun multiplayer games will let you challenge your friends or work together. This game will also have a DS counterpart and will be out this Fall.

Simulation fans will be happy to hear that My Baby 2 is under development. The age range has been upped to about 3 years. You can teach your baby to talk, walk, learn to eat solid food, and much more. But raising a little one is never easy, and it is quite apparent in this game. Pat their head or rub their stomach to help them relax and change their mood. Hold them or give them their favorite stuffed animal to calm them down after a long day. My Baby 2 will be available for the Wii and DS.

But they're just so precious:
raising junior is not so
easy after all.
Horrid Henry, the popular kids show in the UK is coming to American television soon. and to kick off this franchise Henry has a DS game under development. Henry is a very naughty boy who does naughty things like put chili peppers in his father's sandwiches. This game follows Henry around a typical naughty day at his home (which was covered in spiders, by the way — eek!) and the player gets to select what kinds of things Henry will do to others. Horrid Henry will be available for the Wii, DS, and PC.

Perhaps you played Twisted Towers on Xbox Live Arcade? Well, if not, this addictive puzzle game is coming to the Wii very soon. With 100 levels to play in 10 environments, you will be turning platforms and swatting at butterflies for hours. The Wii remote and nunchuck combination allow the player to either press the triggers to rotate platforms, or you can wave the remote. Added features include butterfly catching mini games, as well as catching them while trying to turn the platforms in order to let the blocks drop through. This crazy-yet-super-fun game will be out during this summer.

Last, but not least, is a platformer called Brave: A Warrior's Tale. The story is about an old warrior who is telling a story about how he became the courageous man he is today. The player relives his most trying times via a single-player campaign. As a boy, the warrior learned to possess various spirits to accomplish things like calling an eagle to reach higher ground. With each type he masters, he gains a feather for his bandana. This adorable game will be available this fall for the Wii and the Xbox 360.
