Retail Roundup: October 8, 2008

This week we take to the court.

W

hile there may only be one video game officially licensed by the NFL, the NBA's got plenty of horses in the stable. This week, we see the release of three separate basketball titles: 2K's NBA 2K9 and EA's NBA Live 09 release for all major platforms while Sony's NBA 09: The Inside is a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Fracture's gone through a lot of changes since debuting a few years ago. While the verdict may still be out on this new shooter from Lucasarts and Day 1 Studios (the folks who brought us MechAssault), one thing's for certain: we've already got a lot of shooters to play.

Arc System Works has apparently taught their old dog some new tricks. Guilty Gear 2: Overture takes the franchise into the third dimension while adding tactical elements and a number of brawling mechanics — certainly a surprise from a series with such traditional 2-D fighting roots.

Those looking for tomorrow's console games need look no further than the arcades of the web. Once a popular Flash game, Line Rider 2: Unbound slides its way onto the Wii this week. The Wiimote seems the perfect tool for users to design their own unique sleigh courses.
