Retail Roundup: Feb. 20, 2008

Ed Kirchgessner  //  February 20, 2008

A glimpse of what's new at retail this week.

T

his week features what looks to be a couple of hits and a couple of misses. Then again, that's merely the opinion of this surly editor. Head to your local video game retailer and check out one of these titles (or another one of this week's releases). You're bound to find something worth playing.

What would happen if you took the "kudos" system that's at the heart of the Project Gotham Racing series and inserted it within a completely different genre? We'll find out this week when Bizarre Creations releases The Club for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Players will race against the clock as they vanquish foes in the most stylish fashion they can muster. Despite how disappointing I found PGR4, The Club's demo really kept my interest. We'll keep you posted on this one in an upcoming review.

Hit 'x'. Okay, hit 'x' again. And one more time. Although never known for its depth, the Dynasty Warriors series has been selling like hotcakes since it debuted a decade ago. It (and your carpal tunnel symptoms) return on the PS3 and Xbox 360 with Dynasty Warriors 6.

There's a reason why soccer is played on grass. You see, falling down on concrete isn't that much fun. Apparently, EA Sports has yet to grasp this principle, as this week sees the release of FIFA Street 3 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo DS. I can sympathize with their desire to open up soccer to a new audience, but I have a hunch that this game may have the opposite effect.

Capcom's Ace Attorney receives a new star in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney for the Nintendo DS. Apollo is a lawyer who's career is just beginning. It's your job to interview witnesses, plead your cases and see that justice is served.
